You did the right thing by setting boundaries, changing the locks, and calling the police when your mother tried to forcibly enter your home.

Andrew made a good suggestion. I too encourage you to look into a restraining order, also known as a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order. In some jurisdictions, parental threats and violence against an adult child count as domestic violence, so you could qualify. Meticulously document their recent abusive behavior -- days, times, actions -- because it will be very useful if you choose to seek a PFA. Local crime victim services can advise you and help you through the process.

Good luck, Sheldon. Stay strong.

(My apologies for the radio silence. Because she can't do it, it's up to me to set that boundary, stick to it, and hold my ground when I'm called selfish or uncaring. Over the years fewer people have said that, but I am always aware that people who don't really know here will feel that way about me if I protect myself from her crazy rather than try to help her with it. Curiously, I also deal with depression, and in the winter I need more sleep and less stress. I feel for you, but you will look back on it as a necessary step in your growth and independence.
