Exposing the IFB: Pastor Steven Anderson

Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Phoenix is no stranger to controversy or militant rhetoric.

He is a pastor in the loosely organized Indepdent Fundamental Baptist network, and his teachings and public statements are the most extreme and bizarre I have ever seen from any leader in the IFB cult.

In 2009 he said that he prays for the death of President Obama:
"I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today,"

He is militantly homophobic, saying that not only should homosexuality be illegal, but that gays should be executed, and that gays supposedly "recruit" children into homosexuality through rampant sexual abuse:

You want to know who the biggest hypocrite in the world is? The biggest hypocrite in the world is the person who believes in the death penalty for murderers and not for homosexuals. Hypocrite.
The same God who instituted the death penalty for murderers is the same God who instituted the death penalty for rapists and for homosexuals - sodomites, queers! That's what it was instituted for, okay? That's God, he hasn't changed."
They recruit through rape. They recruit through molestation. They recruit through violation. They are infecting our society.
They are spreading their disease. It's not a physical disease, it's a sin disease , it's a wicked, filthy sin disease and it's spreading on a rampage. Can't you see that it's spreading on a rampage?
He is very anti-government, and has links to the militant "Patriot" and "sovereign citizen" movements, and was tasered after refusing a request to search his car by Border Patrol agents.

He also refused to follow local officer's commands during a traffic stop in separate incident,  he recorded the events and posted the video to Youtube.

Like the rest of the IFB cult, he doesn't have a very high view of women, here's a few quotes from a sermon of his, credit to prominent atheist blogger The Friendly Atheist for posting the video with highlights:

Some women don’t even spend 40 hours a week taking care of their family! Their children and husband suffer!
The Bible says cooking for your family is what you’re supposed to be doing! What else are you doing that’s so important, anyway? “Farmland”?! “Bejewel me”?! Facebook?!

Listening to women who talk back and argue with you is like experiencing Chinese water torture and Waterboarding. Given the choice, I’d rather experience Chinese Water Torture.
He also condemns public schools in this video, IFB members always home school their children, or send them to private schools ran by their churches, to avoid what they see as cultural decadence, anti-Christian teachings and "brainwashing":

You’re too busy to homeschool your kids? “I don’t even understand why you even have children if you’re gonna just drop ‘em off at the government school so they can be brainwashed to be a wicked, god-hating pervert. And I’m not saying that’s how they’re gonna turn out, but that’s the goal of that system, to make ‘em turn out that way!”

Like other IFB ministers, he is opposed to any form of modern media or music. he even takes issue with the rather bland and family friendly TV of the 1950's-1970's, here's his rant about of all shows, The Andy Grffith Show,  and The Odd Couple, :

From the beginning, the producers of television have had an agenda. Even in the most “harmless” of shows, alternative lifestyles are being promoted. Consider, for example, “The Andy Griffith Show.” The show centers around a single parent who lives with his aunt. Admittedly, his wife supposedly died, and he is not divorced. However, we are still being desensitized to the idea of a single parent which is neither the norm nor God’s plan. The show also features a character, Gomer Pile, who is played by a man who is a homosexual in real life.

Consider the show “The Odd Couple” from the 1960’s. Aside from sinful content, we are being exposed to an alternative lifestyle of two men living together as roommates. Genesis 2:24 tells us God’s normal plan, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Although neither man in the show is a homosexual, this show was obviously a forerunner of the sitcoms of today which feature homosexual characters.
If you can see what is wrong with the above examples from forty years ago, you probably do not need me to go into what is wrong with the themes found in today’s television programming.
As is typical with fundamentalists, he is very obsessed with sex. In a 2006 statement on the church website, he makes it clear that he thinks that the only reason a man would become a gynecologist is because, well of course, he must be a pervert!

Jeremiah 17:9 reads, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”  What kind of a man would go into a profession of examining women’s private parts?  Don’t tell me that he is not made of the same sinful flesh that every other man is made of.  No man can look at pornographic images and not be affected.  This is why God commands us repeatedly to set no wicked thing before our eyes.

Because of years and years of looking at and touching scores of women inappropriately, the male gynecologist no doubt has a seared conscience and a perverted mind (I will not go into detail of what goes on in the doctor’s office for decency’s sake, but any woman who has been there knows what I am referring to.).  His view of women and the marital bed has certainly been warped by his indecent involvement with countless women.

Pastor Anderson believes that god is concerned about how men urinate, and urinating in certain ways is "sinful"  (yes I'm serious):

    3. You guys sound scared at what he says but God thinks exactly how this pastor says. You want Jesus to say all this sinning is ok. Too bad, its not ok with Him. I'm a sinner, I've done lots of bad things. But that pastor is right. He stands up to government for all of us, you included because you folks will be first to be yoked. Quit asking God to compromise for you, He won't. If you repent, you can be His child forever, otherwise what Stephen says will happen to you will happen to you. Quit hating, wake up.

    1. Yes! He is dangerous! Because he carries the Word of The Lord of whom you hate! Matthew 10:28 KJV

    2. Haha. Good one Jesse Welsh. The world will hate anyone who follows the Word of God. John 15:18-19 KJV
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

    3. Stephen Anderson is only preaching from the bible which is God's word. Anyone disagreeing with God's word has a problem with God and not with Pastor. If anyone believes Pastor Anderson is wrong, then prove him wrong through the scriptures. But of course they can't prove him wrong through bible verses, so they attack the messenger condemning him relying for support from the biblical y ignorant worldly God hating public.

    4. I'll prove him wrong through the scriptures:

      1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[a] it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

This man does not show love as it is described in the Bible.

      1 Corinthians 16:14 (ESV)
Let all that you do be done in love.

      Mark 12:31 (ESV)
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

If he loved others as himself, then he would encourage lost/spiritually weak people out of their sin with the usage of the scripture, not demonize them and make himself look pure and righteous.

There are so many righteous pastors in the world, please do not follow this pastor. If you do listen to this man, then only pay attention to the things he says that are directly quoted in the Bible.

The video picks up after about 10 minutes of Anderson arguing with them about violating the Constitution...

He was arrested and charged (I don't know what for) and acquitted by a jury of his peers - only after being tazed, assaulted, injured, and having his property destroyed for no reason. You can disagree with him all you want but just wait until the police state targets you!

  5. It's a wonder anyone believes the Bible. The OT is full of history of God's people- murder, rape, theft, drunkeness, stealing, liars, disobedience. But those stories also show me that God is real. After all, would someone wanting to sell something tell the bad things that go on in the company? Of course not...If the Bible were written by only men wanting to make up something, there would have been only glowing reports about the people involved. Why then all these stories about scoundrels and rascals and all sorts of problems and mess-ups. Because God is showing us that people have problems and will do the wrong thing. Only one OT person is near perfect and that is Daniel. So there is only one answer to all that sin...Jesus death on the cross. Our way was paid to heaven.

  6. To all who replied anonymously, casting your stones as it were, you are sad. And while you think no-one will know it was you, God does. And he will bring it up with you again. You are obviously as intolerant as you accuse the pastor to be. Rather than trying to talk to the man yourself you'd prefer to ask just about anyone else (i.e. posting something crude on the internet). And I'm sorry, that makes you stupid which is why I'm sure most of you walk in darkness. If you don't read the bible, don't comment on it. You don't know what you're talking about. If you do and you take issue with something said, research it, talk to God about it, talk to the person who said it, and I guarantee things will become clearer. But don't just jump on the stupid comment bandwagon. It gives us intelligent Christians a bad name. And if you want to take issue with me my name is Steffanie Best. Come find me.

    1. "If you don't read the bible, don't comment on it."

I have to laugh so hard when I read comments like that. It's usually the people who know the Bible best who like it the least, like in my case. I made my profession of faith at 5, I was having theological discussions with pastors that would have made most Christians feel lost and confused by the time I was about 10, and spent a year as a Biblical Studies minor at a well known Christian university before I finally saw the truth about Christianity.

The old "If you don't like the Bible, you have probably never read it" line is just laughable and absurd to me.

    2. I am SO GLAD for this opportunity to post "anonymously," or without a real name as only an idiot would post their real name, "Stephanie Best" (I don't believe you), the way I try to on the sanderson1611 and stevenandersonfamily blogs. They are all about censorship, which is why I have never gotten a single, solitary comment posted to any of their blogs! They also threw away my 18-year-old Battleship Texas postcard I'd kept since 4th grade and sent years 3 ago (Feb 2011), never mentioning anything about homosexuality or their beliefs, and refused to add my city to their stupid little "Cantering the Country" map.

I have read the Bible cover to cover, and not ONE TIME is the word "Lesbian" mentioned, nor is there a female equivalent of Leviticus 20:13 nor a single homosexual female character from Genesis through Revelation, yet he preaches against us as though we're just as bad as the "Sodomites!"

Well, I stand by my belief 100% that lesbians are THE HEALTHIEST GROUP OF WOMEN ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH, and will do so until the day I die, most likely well after 100. We have the lowest annual coldrate (number of colds per year), I myself having not had one since I entered my 30's (I'm a 1983 Gemini, so do the math), and young children under 10, regardless of whether they attend school, daycare, a library book club, a church nursery, or just a regular church congregation like his where nurseries don't exist, are at the other end of the spectrum, averaging more than 6 colds per year!!!

So here I am on this cold, icy day, laughing my Lesbian ass off through a clear nose, thanks to my LACK OF KIDS and 8+ hours of sleep each night, while Zsuzsanna is on "modified bed rest," trying to save her 1 surviving twin boy from suffering the same fate as did his dead brother in there! I think it's hilarious that, despite them not going to school or eating fast food (i.e. McD's, BK, etc.), she and her kids STILL manage to catch colds/illnesses, and so does their "Superman" of a daddy!!! I have heard him sneeze, sniffle, and cough in so many of his sermons that it is UNBELIEVABLE and has me SO GLAD I'm over 10 hours away, not a member of a church, and a short-haired, pants-wearing, 30-year-old, CHILDLESS, VIRGIN LESBIAN!!!!!!! Muahahahahahahahah!!!!!!! Jealous BASTARDS!!!!!!!

      Sincerely,
Sender of Battleship Texas card with beautiful cursive penmanship in Feb. 2011

    3. Hey anonymous woman who said that lesbians were not commented on the Bible, here there is Romans 1:26-32 KJV

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

      28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Its not just about lesbians, but also about all kind of homossexuality and imorality. Hope this helped you.

I just got through composing a comical revue of another person's challenge to rebut and not be anonymous and now you say it won't be posted...??? That is just not FAIR to me or other people here....! 8. It is rare that a preacher is willing to tell exactly what the Bible is saying, most so called preachers want to sugar coat things to insure not to offend anyone in the congregation because they want to be liked and aproved of. This will tell you right there that a water downed Pastor is not in it for the right reason.. You should not be seeking the acceptance of people over your duty as a preacher to get Gods word out and warn people of the tools Satan uses to take peoples eyes off Christ. Sin is Sin they have not lost there severity over the years. People want us to except homos and other sinful nature to justify themselves or people they know and then, have the nerve to get mad at a real preacher who is sticking strictly to scripture and wants to keep his congregation from being manupulated by satans recruitors. Thank God for his word and for someone like Steve Anderson who is not afraid to do what he has been called to do.

  11. This man Steve Anderson is of the devil. Guys watch his videos on women. He HATES women. God is not prejudiced against gender ( gal 3:28) . He chose Debra as a Judge of Israel. God spoke through many female prophets and chose females for teaching His Word. Tere are many examples in the bible. Anderson misrepresents Word and therefore he ismamfalse teacher. He also brings bad name to Christianity . His wife should stand up to him, but she is probably abused and subjugated. Se has 8 kids by this guy, what can she do... He got her that many kids to tie her down, so he can abuse her. Se must cry where no one sees her. I pray for his wife, so she can get free from this psycho.

  12. Jesus is compassion; Jesus is love....... Steven Anderson is BILE and HATRED. The reason for this can only be that he, himself, is HOMOSEXUAL...... a resentful, closeted homosexual. Nothing wrong with homosexuals (God made them, didn't he??), but I hope all the so-called pastor's children turn out gay.
