An Open Letter To My Readers

When I started this blog, I honestly did not know what I would write about. I opened the account on Blogger in August at the recommendation of my blogging inspiration Godless Poutine, and I had no idea what I would post about, there was no one certain focus to it in the beginning. I wondered if I would shut down my blogging experiment after a few weeks, and without any readers.

I did find my main focus after a few weeks. Today, I have become well known for my posts telling the story of my fundamentalist past, both here, and on other blogs, as well as exposing dangerous cults like the IFB and Sovereign Grace Ministries.

I will continue to post on these topics, it's important for me to do so, it actually has helped me confront my past (and start to recover), and the horrible abuse in groups like the IFB needs to be exposed to the world. Talking about these topics has also been popular with you, my readers, it seems you all are hungry for more information on cult groups (even though it can be shocking and heart breaking at times), and want to know more about fundamentalism from a first hand perspective. Though it can be hard to write on these topics sometimes, I don't regret doing it.

Lately, however, I have been thinking that is not the only thing I want myself and my blog to be known for. I have tried talking about other topics, and I have been successful at times, but that was mostly posts on philosophy or religion in general, stray outside those lines, and posts get very little views.

I'm usually disappointed when a post gets very few views, not out of a sense of frustration or wounded ego, but I get this strange feeling that I've let the readers down. (I'm odd I know). I'm trying to find a topic or topics that's just as meaningful to me, and something that you as a reader will find meaningful as well, but it's a struggle trying to find something that fits. The blog needs more than just one focus, I think, I don't know if you agree (let me know in comments or on Google + ).

I'm still thinking this over, but in the meantime, I'll keep writing......

  1. Wish I could help you, however I am not a blogger, or don't follow many.

Have you thought of doing the blogging through the new Community feature of G+?

    1. I could start a community as a way to get discussions started, and promote the blog. I don't know how successful it would be, though.

  2. I know for myself, I just blog about what I find interesting. Apart from my main bible posts, I just try to blog about whatever catches my attention. I often just use it as an excuse to look into something deeper than I probably would otherwise. That way I basically feel like I get something out of the process of writing the post, and then if even if no one seems to care about it, it was still worth writing.

I also have found it impossible to figure out what will be successful, sometimes when I think a post is great it gets no comments. Other times I'm surprised at a good conversation that get spawned off a relatively benign post. I don't think it's worth worrying about. Just write about what you find interesting and you'll find readers.

    1. Thanks for the advice, I have noticed that it's hard to predict what posts will be popular, unless that specific theme or style of post has been popular before.

No spam, proselytizing, or personal attacks, such comments will never see the light of day around here.

Disagreeing with me is fine (I encourage it), but have some decency when writing your comment
