The Best of the Blogging World This Week

I know it may sound like I'm being a lazy blogger with this post, but there truly has been so many great blog posts out there from fellow bloggers.

 I would like to highlight a few of them, so many great posts on everything from a great conclusion to a great series on leaving Christianity, to a blog post about Ken Ham (the founder of the Creation Museum/Answers in Genesis), and how his plans for theme park have gone down in flames.

Ken Ham and his disastrous "Ark Park" experiment:

Bruce Gerencser in his great blog, The Way Forward, wrote recently about Ken Ham wanting to expand his Creation Museum (which is already starting to struggle financially), by building a theme park based on the Old Testament and its stories. Ken Ham is struggling to come up with funding, and he is scrambling, trying to get the state of Kentucky, as well as the nearby town of Williamstown to cough up the cash to support him with direct funding and bond issuing.

Besides the problem of church/state separation, it will be a disaster if Kentucky and Williamstown go along with this, because much of his plans hinge on the financial success of this endeavor. In order for it to be successful, it will require 1 million people a year to be paying visitors, and he can only get about 400,000 people a year to visit his Creation Museum.

Reminiscing About Outrageous Youth Group Games With Rachel Held Evans

I don't quite understand why so many popular bloggers prefer Twitter to Google +, after all, you would think that long winded people like me would hate a site that restricts you to 140 characters....

Anyway, one great thing that really makes Twitter worthwhile for me despite it's character limit is the great bloggers that are on there, and some of hilarious conversations that result.

Last night,  Christian author/blogger Rachel Held Evans asked people about some of the outrageous youth group games they experienced as teens.

A lot of laughs ensued, some games were ridiculous, some were disgusting, and others, outright dangerous. Here's a few of my favorite tweets:

A Note For My Readers

I wanted to warn everyone in advance that in the next few weeks, there may be times where you may not posts on the blog for several days at time. Don't panic, I will be back to posting regularly eventually, but several things are coming that will be making blogging difficult.

First, it appears that the regular summer rush is beginning at my job in the warehouse industry. It will be very chaotic at work, and I will be tired, and not have much time to write.

Second, starting June 9th, I will be on vacation, and offline during that time. Exactly how many days this vacation will last is yet unknown, it could be as little as 3 days or over a week.

A Frustrating Exchange with a Fundamentalist Blogger

I don't even know why I bother reading fundamentalist blogs sometimes. Self hatred, perhaps? 

I don't understand why I have a compulsion to read blogs I know are going to make my blood boil, like William Lane Craig's "Reasonable Faith" website, or John Piper's Desiring God. I don't fully understand why I get in debates with fundamentalists online either, but I keep getting drawn into it, even though most of the time, the fundamentalist at the end, will choose this as their debating tactic:

Well, today, I run across a fundamentalist blogger saying that the reason fundamentalism is losing people is because churches, because wait for it..... churches are trying to be too modern.

Yes, you read that right, and for those of you who have never been fundamentalists, it seems like a strange argument to make, but I have hear it many times. Here's a quote from the post:

Back to the link. The church is too normal and mainstream to mean anything to young people. Such a great insight. The church just continues to adopt cultural norms and expects to have an effect on society. Today's church reacts to pop culture by...wait for it...becoming more pop culture.  The Bible doesn't do that. It is the Truth. God's Word doesn't care about Sodom and Gomorrah's practices. The Truth is not democratic. A church cannot possibly hope to reach young adults by appearing no different than the rave they went to Saturday night.
